Design of IP optical nodes based on AWG with shared tunable wavelength converters

چکیده
In order to meet the ever-growing demand of transmission capacity, optical packet switching technology is emerging as a major candidate, promising to allow fast dynamic allocation of WDM channels, combined with a high degree of statistical resource sharing. This paper describes the architecture of an optical switching node for IP networks based on an arrayed waveguide grating device to route packets. Given the high cost of optical components needed to route packets inside the AWG, two node architectures equipped with a pool of tunable wavelength converters fully shared among all input ports are proposed. Here an analyticalmodel is developed that allows us to evaluate the performance of a bufferless optical switch architecture. Computer simulation is used as well to evaluate the packet loss probability in the node under various buffering arrangements by comparing different scheduling algorithms. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. In recent years, the demand for the grid computing technology is arising, and it has been researched widely. In the existing grid computing environment, TCP/IP is usually used for communication between computing nodes. However, the packet processing of TCP/IP degrades network throughput and computing performance. Thus, we have proposed a new architecture called the λ computing environment, that...

In recent years, the Grid technology has been studied and developed by many researchers. In the conventional Grid environment, data is changed by using TCP/IP. However, as long as the architecture is based on packet switching, realization of high performance computing is difficult. Thus we propose a new architecture, the λ computing environment. In the λ computing environment, network switches ...
متن کاملPractical solutions for optical packet switches with shared wavelength converters: performance and complexity evaluations
Multi-stage optical packet switching fabric based on the broadcast-and-select principle is considered to implement the shared-per-node wavelength conversion scheme. This approach fairly allows to combine contention resolution in the wavelength and space domains. A scheduling algorithm is proposed to control optical packet forwarding in synchronous context. The results aim at showing how the sha...
